Updated on 14th February 2015:

Its been wonderful 7+ years of blogging. It is my pleasure to share some information about myself and this blog ( http://asic-soc.blogspot.com ).
  • My Education:
Master of Science (MSc) in Electronics
Master of Science (MSc) in VLSI
  • My Initial days career in Embedded Field:
I have designed and developed PIC micro-controller based applications in my initial days of career for 3 years. That was immense leaning experience. It was those days I came across PCB development, board level issues like SI, micro-controller programmers using JTAG, RS 232 serial interfaces, SPI, CAN bus, Embedded C programming and many more. I got introduced to VLSI  domain though the path of FPGA based embedded applications for which i was working.
  • Back to college for Masters:
Knowledge I gained on FPGA changed my career direction. Later I quit the job to do masters in VLSI !
  • Days and nights of PD for past 8+ years:
Since then I am in Physical Design domain looking at my laptop monitor day and night. Sometime i really wonder and feel confused that what i earned these days and what I lost !!
  • My hobbies and interest:
This blog. I have personal blog:
http://kmmtech.blogspot.com
Here I have posted my literature works in my mother-tongue Kannada. Other my interest also belongs to travelogues, photography, national and international politics !
  • About this blog:
Good to know that this blog sustained for 7+ years. Blog has several information on vast field of VLSI such as Verilog coding, Logic Synthesis, Physical Design, Static Timing Analysis.
  • References:
I intend to practice IEEE standards for reference and bibliography. I followed it to my best abilities but in many places strictly  couldn't. This can be attributed to lethargic mood many times I enter into. I read and study many existing technical information available in the internet world before I start writing any article. I would like to credit all those authors, blogs, websites and universities for sharing technical knowledge and will try my level best to acknowledge the same in my articles. You can always drop me mail asicsocblog@gmail.com if you find reference is missing or quoted wrong.
  • How much useful this blog to VLSI community?
Success of this blog can be understood by the fact that it is been referred by multiple people related to academia. I have listed known links wherein this blog has been referred. My warmest thanks to all these professionals for trusting genuine efforts of this blog.

Several articles from asic-soc blog are sited here

  • My Dreams, Future plans:
Develop a full fledged asic-soc website. I know I need to buy web hosting space, then domain name. I am not well versed in website development. I recently came across CMS-Content Management Solution by Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla etc. Trying my hands on these to integrate with websites. But it may take some time, but i will do it.
  • My roots and interest still lies with embedded domain. You can find coupe of my projects related to micro-controller applications in this blog which I have accomplished in my initial days of career. I still dream big on this section:
  • Update above planned website with embedded related theories, projects, events and many more.
  • Professional Training Division:
I would like start a professional training division on VLSI and Embedded domain. Details will be provided later as and when time permits. But I have not set any time frame yet. Two reasons behind it:
I don't want to face clash of conflict of interest with my existing employer and my new initiative. Hence it may take some time to understand the feasibility of this new start-up initiative.
Second obvious reason is funding ! I don't have enough capital to invest on this idea. I am betting on some fund raising opportunities that will knock my door. Lets wait !

Updated on 21st Dec 2010:
As per as new writing are concerned I feel I did little to improve the frequency of articles published. There are not number of excuses I can give myself other than hectic work and time dedicated to my family. But with growing experience I am hopeful some good articles coming up in future days. At the same time I am very much happy that my "notebook" still exists and growing slowly. I feel maintaining a technical blog for 3+ years itself is a good achievement. I have merged my other two blogs related to VLSI interview questions and embedded stuffs to this blog itself. Adsense earnings have deteriorated heavily due to lack of new technical articles !

(Below section is written sometime back in 2007/2008 !)

Its been two years since I started blogging on this blog. I thank all the readers who supported this activity. I would like to share some sweet and bitter moments since the inception of this blog.

About Myself

I am not a professional blogger. I have not seen all corners of the VLSI industry. When I started this blog I was a student of VLSI domain. Forget about my 3 years experience in embedded domain. As of now, I have 2 years of pure backend experience catering to Synthesis, STA, Place and Route. Trying my level best to become an expert in Low Power Design methodologies. Naturally, one can find more articles related to low power designs in this blog.

About My Articles
One senior fellow has mailed long back that he loved to read my simple blog posts. He said he has attended my training sessions on some Synopsys tools somewhere in USA. He believed that I was a Synopsys fellow. (May be because I was quoting Synopsys tools most often in my articles). I replied him back that I have just started my career in VLSI industry in India, hence there is no chance to find me in USA! Nevertheless, it feels great  when somebody likes my blog!

Some more emails I received requested guidance for their educational projects. Some people sent their resumes to me believing that I can help them in getting a good job opportunity for them. How could I tell these people that I myself needed both from other professionals of the industry when they sent those mails to me?!! But, of course, now I am in better position, at least to share knowledge.

Is it right to blog technical topics?

Sometime back I received a comment on one of  blog posts. It said, "It is completely unethical to blog on topics for which you have been paid for (from the employer). You may be laid off in this recession time". It seems this is never ending discussion whether blogging is professionally ethical or not? I have seen several round of discussion in DAC and other conferences, as reported by fellow senior bloggers of VLSI bloggosphere, on using on line social medias as a tool of expression for techno-professional part of life. As per as asic-soc blog is concerned, I never discussed anything about my projects I did for my employer. If you find any project details, then those are all what I did in my educational days. Rest of the articles discuss about general technical topics of VLSI with my view of angle. Finally, if somebody finally gets laid off because of his/her blog, then it must be considered as honor of appreciation. Then, I am sure, the blogger will be absorbed in some other company immediately purely due to his/her blog!!

Blog statistics

How much I earn from blogging?
On an average I earned $60 per month for last one year! That means around 3000 rupees. Not a bad amount considering small VLSI design community in the world !

Blog has readers from all around the world, USA and India, being top on the list. Feedburner says it has around 700 subscribers as of now.
So ...that's it.... Let me get back to some technical stuffs... !!
